This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Ostensibly Pam's hugely inspiring talk is a story about growing vegetables but in reality it's a story about growing (or re-growing) a community. With energy and humor, Pam Warhurst tells the story of how she and a growing team of volunteers came together to turn plots of unused land into communal vegetable gardens, and to change the narrative of food in their community.

Pam is an incredibly inspiring speaker and person. She's the non-sports personification of Nike's "Just Do It" campaign.

Pam is the co- founder of the Incredible Edible Todmorden initiative, which encourages ordinary people to take control of their communities and their surroundings through civic engagement and food.

She is a former chair of the UK Forestry Commission and has served as a member of the Board of Natural England, where she was the lead non- executive board member working on the Countryside & Rights of Way Bill. She has also been Deputy Chair and Acting Chair of the Countryside Agency.

She was awarded CBE in 2005 for services to the environment.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
