Water rescue crews responded to the Berkley Riverfront Park Friday morning after a pickup went into the Missouri River. Witnesses told authorities an older white man was driving the burgundy pickup when it went off the east side of the Heart of America Bridge and into the river. Witnesses who were driving next to the pickup told KMBC that they saw the man wave as if to say, "I'm sorry," and then he veered off the bridge. According to a 911 caller, the pickup floated about a quarter-mile before it completely submerged under water. Witnesses said the man was not able to get out of the vehicle.
