Originally recorded November 30, 2017. The heat in the Buick, that I made work again, has stopped working. Well not officially the heat, but the whole car. The heater core ruptured. Slow leak, but fast enough to be very problematic. I'd have to refill quite a bit of coolant (2 quarts or so) after a relatively short trip. Now all I know when I hear "heater core" is the cha-ching of dollar signs. Interestingly enough, the puddle of coolant was NOT inside the car, but outside underneath, coming from around the firewall area. Fortunately, the price of the heater core itself wasn't too bad. Only $50. And, as luck would have it, of all things to be on sale, was the heater core that fits this very car, a 1967 Buick Riviera. Got the heater core itself for $35. That's only a little plus. Looking back now, to when this happened, it was so very sad to see my nice vintage car so sick, puking green stuff on the ground. Even more sickening was the thought of what this was going to actually cost to fix. The labor for doing heater cores is outrageous. While I could have bypassed the hoses and gone without heat, there really was no reason NOT to fix it, this way its a usable car in the colder weather, whether (see, there's a difference) going out for pleasure, work, or because one of the other cars is sick. My diagnosis was correct. The heater core is leaking. She's got to go in for surgery. Will she make it? More importantly, will my wallet make it? Wait and find out!
