Cyprus: Crossing talks to continue

United Nations, New York, 2 July 2009 - Noon briefing by the Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General. Talks between the Cyprus leaders continued today in Nicosia under UN auspices. Speaking after the leaders' meeting, the Secretary-General's Special Representative for Cyprus, Taye-Brook Zerihoun, told the press that the leaders discussed the follow-up to the agreement reached on the opening of certain crossings. They also exchanged views on the issue of territory that each of the two constituent states would occupy in a future federation. The leaders decided that, at their next meeting on 9 July, they will open discussions on security issues.
