--Overall Comments--

Spike certainly is receiving some big episodes this season!  First the whole wings thing, and now he gets to meet his father.   ...Or does he?

The second half of the season continues to bring the songs, with "Father Knows Beast" providing us our second week of new songs in a row!  "Just Can't Be a Dragon Here" is a wonderful jazzy musical number, sung by Spike's "father," Sludge.  With Daniel Ingram having the opportunity to utilize The Nashville Scoring Orchestra from the movie's recording in the songs this season, he's certainly not wasted the opportunity, with most of the songs featuring prominent brass, and having a big-band, jazz feel.  And this week's song is certainly know exception, filled to the bring with wonderful sounding muted trumpets, trombone and also plenty of saxophone. 

William Anderson's score doesn't slouch this episode either, with two montage scenes with their own score, plenty of more emotional cues, a new motif for Sludge, and even a short reprise of the song by Spike with Anderson's backing.

--Track Specific Comments--

This week's episode begins in a very familiar way.  In a similar vein to the start of Season 4, where Twilight Sparkle is trying to fly using her new wings, at the beginning of "Father Knows Beast," we see Spike doing the same.  However, the similarities don't stop with just the situation.  William Anderson also brings back the same string score cue from the start of that episode, tying the two scenes together musically as well.  It's a nice touch that further shows the similarities of the two scenes.
