"Dude, did they just say they were serving basketballs for lunch today in the cafeteria and playing with chicken in the gym?" So what do middle school students actually hear — and remember — about the morning announcements? Announcements are believed to build community while informing students about their school. But do students really listen? And how can we — as educators — do it differently to make the morning announcements more meaningful? Jeff Haney is Director of Internal Communications for Canyons School District. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
