So since the build of this quad I've been dealing with video issues. I'd get 25 or 30 feet away and video would break up pretty bad preventing me from flying it a lot so today I decided to swap out the elcheapo off brand stubby antenna to an immersionrc RHCP and that combined with getting the antenna out from behind the battery it seemed to have work rather well.
