Which county is harsher on DUI offenders, Riverside or San Bernardino? In this video, a former DUI enforcement officer explains. On a first time (first offense) DUI, the penalties and punishment in both counties are similar. Both impose 3 years of probation, fines of close to $2000, and DUI school. The biggest difference between Riverside and San Bernardino tends to be in the jail time or work release. San Bernardino generally imposes no jail or custody time on a 1st time DUI. Riverside typically imposes 6 to 20 days of jail or work release. However, a good criminal defense lawyer can often get charges dismissed or sentencing reduced in either county.
