(14 Dec 2018) China said its cooperation with Africa is to "truly make benefits", in a rejection to Trump's new Africa strategy.
The Trump administration on Thursday announced a sharp refocus of its Africa strategy to counter what it called the "predatory" practices of China and Russia, which are "deliberately and aggressively targeting their investments in the region to gain a competitive advantage."
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said China considers African needs in the cooperation with Africa.
Lu also urged the US Congress not to pass the bill that demands access for US diplomats, journalists and tourists, and threatens to deny Chinese officials' access into the US if China does not open Tibet.
Lu said nearly 40-thousand Americans has travelled to Tibet in the past four years.
He also commented on the arrest of Meng Wanzhou, the chief financial officer of telecommunications giant Huawei, on Dec. 1 in Canada, at the request of the United States.
The US wants her extradited to face charges that she and her company misled banks about the company's business dealings in Iran.
A Canadian judge released Meng on bail on Tuesday.
