World Markets End the Week Mixed

U.S. stocks rallied on Friday following two days of declines that saw the Dow Jones Industrial average fall to its lowest level in six years. U.S. stocks soared after reports that President-elect Barack Obama has chosen New York Federal Reserve Bank chief Timothy Geithner as his Treasury Secretary. Asian markets, which had followed declines on Wall Street, also rebounded on Friday as investors snapped up bargains. But European markets ended the week sharply lower amid investor worries about a prolonged recession in Europe and the United States.
