Jyoti Rose Tirkey is a newsreader with Doordarshan, India's state TV channel with country's largest audience. The "Girl Stars" project includes this series of films documenting the stories of girls from the most disadvantaged communities across five northern states of India who, through attaining education, have managed to break the shackles of socio-economic constraints and make successful, self-sufficient lives for themselves. These young women have become role models in their communities and beyond, inspiring girls to go to school and continue their education.
