On February 1, 2013, the Aspen Institute's Workforce Strategies Initiative hosted a discussion titled "Home Economics: A Discussion about the Unregulated World of Domestic Work." During this event, panelists from academia, advocacy, philanthropy, and the front-line of the industry discussed the challenges facing employers and employees in domestic work, as well as strategies and resources for improving job quality. Panelists included (from left to right): Judy Patrick, President and CEO of The Women's Foundation of California Ai-jen Poo, Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance Mary Romero, Professor of Justice Studies and Social Inquiry at Arizona State University Barbara Young, National Organizer and former domestic worker of the National Domestic Workers Alliance Moderated by Jennifer Ludden, Correspondent at the National Public Radio This discussion was the sixth installment of the Workforce Strategies Initiative's series, Reinventing Low-Wage Work: Ideas that Can Work for Employees, Employers, and the Economy, which addressed overlooked and growing sectors of the low-wage workforce, while exploring ideas for improving job quality.
