MA State Representative Ruth Balser describes the biggest challenge to home fire sprinkler efforts

Ruth B. Balser is the State Representative for the 12th Middlesex District, Massachusetts. After a nine-year battle to require sprinklers in commercial properties, she advocates for the expansion of fire sprinkler requirements, including the efforts to extend requirements in the home. She says from her perspective, the biggest challenge to getting fire sprinklers required in new homes has to do with the economy. "There is always a worry about cost," she says, "but the only thing I always say is how do you put a price tag on a human life? But the challenge is there." Rep.
