Kemps Ridley sea turtle (Lefty) after first filter replacement. Lefty was presented after a boating accident where her shell and left humerus was broken. The humerus was compound and comminuted and took several months to heal. Due to the Horizon oil spill in the gulf her release date postponed till it was deemed safe. She was unique among sea turtles in the gulf in that she was injured before the oil spill and tagged with a GPS tracking device. The mission was to recapture her and get some tissue samples in order to know what true effects were happening to others of her same species secondary to oil exposure. This was gonna be scientific first, but the powers that be were halting the recapture as well as other logistics. One day she fell off the radar and never heard from again.
