Democrat says he plans to seek Trump tax returns

(7 Nov 2018) A senior Massachusetts Congressional lawmaker says President Donald Trump should prepare to see Democrats using their newfound powers in the House of Representatives to press him to release his tax returns. U.S. Rep. Richard Neal is the most senior Democrat in the Congressional Ways and Means Committee that write tax laws. He was speaking on Wednesday, a day after midterm elections saw Democrats seize control of the House. Neal said that Democrats plans to use the law to compel Trump to release his elusive tax returns. Neal suggested that it would be better for the president to do so voluntarily. He said failure to do so may results in Democrats turning to the Joint committee on Taxation to ask for Trump's tax returns, which he acknowledged is likely to spark a lengthy legal battle.
