Gummadi Vittal Rao, the 69 year old former Maoist leader, who spent his life fighting oppression at the hands of various governments over the years and shunned the democratic process, is now a star campaigner for the Congress in poll bound Telangana. 

India’s bloody Maoist struggle has claimed hundreds, if not thousands of lives, and impacting many more with the establishment and those opposing it unwilling to relent on their stated positions, that is inherited by successive governments, irrespective of the party. Maoists has countered every move of the government to inject democracy into villages it believes are devoid of development or access to public benefits with force, often ending up with a piling up of bodies. 

Gaddar knows this first hand, has been fired upon and is one of only two surviving members of a 32 member group that operated in Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states. His new avatar, he hopes, would influence the Maoists to review its strategy to use both the guns and their votes to keep carry forward the revolution.
