Move and Explore program will be featured on the A World of Smiles telethon on Sunday May 26, 2013. Movement is a key component in supporting children to explore their world with vision stimulating movement and learning. For children with visual impairment learning to move and explore is an essential skill that requires intervention through orientation and mobility training. Orientation is the "thinking" part" and mobility is the "physical part" of this training. In British Columbia, children with visual impairment receive services through the Sunny Hill Visual Impairment Program. Vision consultants are part of the team and work with children, families and community professionals to help children develop their skills. Their role includes the identification of those children who would benefit from more intensive orientation and mobility instruction.
