June 11, 2015 - To kick off Iowa's 2015 Juneteenth celebration, leaders from across the state attended the Community Builders Banquet in Des Moines to recognize Iowans committed to the promotion of civil rights for all. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the celebration of Juneteenth in Iowa, which commemorates the freeing of African American slaves after the Civil War.
