This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Will the skills you have translate overseas? Takaya Mitsunaga went to New York alone and performed for people from all walks of life. How can he turn a random group of strangers into an audience using only a basketball? To draw eyeballs, he's developed a keen sense of what people want to see. In this regard, looking back on his career to see how it paid his bills, he realizes a great deal: it becomes apparent that while he was fulfilling his goal of experimenting with and trying out his own style, the various cultures of the cities in which he performed and his role as a performer were subsuming his everyday life. As his audience, we are transfixed by the movements of the ball and his body; now, where will he lead us with his voice and words?

自分が持っている技術は海外で通じるのだろうか。満永隆哉は単身ニューヨークへと渡り、あらゆる路の行きかう人々に向けてパフォーマンスを行った。今は或る群集でしかない目の前の人々を、どうしたらバスケットボール一つで観客に変えることができるか。その足を止めさせる為に、観たいと欲するものへの嗅覚は鋭くなっていく。そうして、生活費を賄う地点から表現を今一度眺めてみると、気づかされることは多かった。自らの表現を試すという目的が満たされるのと同時に、それぞれの街の文化、パフォーマーという存在など、当時の生活を包摂していたものが見えてくる。口開く彼によって、ボールと身体の行き先に惹きつけられ観客と化した私たちを、次はどこに誘ってくれるのだろう。

Enrolled in the economics department of Keio University. Went to the U.S. as a freestyle basketball performer; performed on the street, in clubs, on television, and in a pro basketball league, working mainly in New York. Since returning to Japan, has also worked as a creator of street film and a cross-disciplinary stage producer.

慶應義塾大学経済学部在学中。フリースタイルバスケットボールパフォーマーとして渡米し、 ニューヨークを中心にストリート・クラブ・ＴＶ・プロバスケットボールリーグなどでパフォーマンスを行う。 帰国後はストリート系コンテンツの映像クリエイター・分野横断型ステージの演出家としても活動中。
