I went a different route on my own, following a stranger's footsteps from who knows when. Turns out the path had to get over a cornice several feet deep. Hard to tell with the video, but it was up to my ribcage and I crawled over the lip of the mass to get past. Fun, challenging, and a little bit nerve-wracking that the whole mass would come loose. There were a few spots where small slabs had broken free.
