We spotted two different Mexican Red-rump Tarantulas (Brachypelma vagans) while driving down the road to the Maya ruins of Calakmul in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve of Mexico. The second one shown is displaying a defensive posture, raising its abdomen and threatening us with its urticating hairs.
