There are many tales on the origins of Loch Lomond, but my favorite is of two Scottish prisoners that were captured away from their homeland. One was to be set free and the other condemned to die. The one condemned to die and the narrator would see his homeland and his true love before his companion as his companion would have to take the high road meaning go over land. The condemned prisoner would be guided by fairies and take the much shorter low road or beneath the ground. Unfortunately, he would only see his homeland and his true love in spirit. There is also a wonderful Irish song set to the same tune called Red is the Rose. The video is something new felt a bit ugly so I painted myself purdy
