Item title reads - The Blessing of the Waters. Prince Nicholas, the Patriarch and clergy of Orthodox Church, attend traditional Epiphany ceremony. Bucharest, Romania.



L/S as clergymen in ornate robes emerge from church holding tablets of stone (?) Various shots as they all emerge into the snow and walk down some steps. 



Intertitle - 'Four peasants, in their night-shirts, retrieve consecrating cross from frozen river.'  M/S as they walk along in the river watched by Prince Nicholas and the clergymen. M/S as one holds the cross up and they wade towards the side, it is handed to the clergyman and they all make their way up the bank.  M/S of the men in their night-shirts looking very cold. 



Intertitle - 'the blessing of the troops concludes centuries' old custom.'  M/S as the troops walk along, Prince Nicholas salutes to them.  A clergyman throws incense or holy water towards them.  



M/S as Prince Nicholas gets out of his carriage and salutes, he shakes hands with officials and military officers.  Note: the above story is then repeated plus the section which follows. 



M/S as clergy walk in procession followed by Prince Nicholas.  Various shots as troops march past and he salutes while the clergyman blesses them.  M/S of Prince Nicholas talking to soldiers while clergymen stand in the background.
