This video can be a little hard to follow if you're not familiar with some of the terms used. So we've typed everything up to help you follow along. Please note that we don't normally go this intellectual on camera, but the interviewee was studying philosophy himself, so the interviewer took the chance to go deeper. [1] Ontology - subject of being or existence [2] Epistemology - subject of knowledge and knowing [3] Quantify - In this sense, expressing your reasoning, logically. [4] Transcendent - beyond or above the range of normal or physical human experience. [5] Ought-ness - The way things (objectively) 'should' or 'shouldn't' be. Not based upon personal opinion. ---Basic Transcript:--- A: Can I send a message to the Christian community then? B: Yes you can A: Accept homosexuality B: OK, let me ask you this should we- A: And love your fellow human being what ever sex, whatever race, what ever gender they are. B: We would agree with you to love your fellow human beings, does that mean we should allow polygamy? A: Why not? Yeah B: What about animism where they marry a lamppost and have sex with a- A: -come on that's absolutely crazy B: but I think that- A: Yeah if that person does that then what's the problem with that? If they want to marry a goat, let them marry a goat. Marriage is... I know what you guys believe in marriage but... I am married actually. B: That's awesome. Let me tell you how your argument hinges and why it doesn't work in your world-view without God: OK, for morality to exist there has to be something called ought-ness [5], you're implying to a standard. A: Ought-ness? B: OUGHT-NESS. You know Immanuel Kant, that's his whole point, ought-ness right. So for there to be morality, there has to be, ontologically [1] the way things should be or ought to be and that can only be true if there was a designer, purpose and meaning to reality. Right? And the whole point is that Christians do, they hold sex as sacred, they believe there is a purpose to sex and they believe there is a purpose to community and they believe there is a purpose to marriage. So what we're against is the brokenness of that happening [purpose]. But for a person to argue against it, they would first have to have a worldview which can ontologically [1] prove ought-ness and then they'd have to have an epistemological [2] position to show how you'd quantify [3] it. But to me the only position for why we ought to do anything can only be true if there were a God because what you are implying is that there is a design, there is a purpose and that there is a meaning to reality, and that can only be true if it's transcendent [4] and from a personal being [God]. So the point of the matter is, if we ought to do anything, we ought to get our standard from that transcendent [4] position [God]. A: I'm not implying that there is an ultimate being. B: Then there's no ought-ness, that's the point. What I'm saying is, what you're oughting on, is a preference to behaviour, just like you have a preference to chocolate ice cream over vanilla, what you have is a preference to behaviour... A: I'm quite hungry B: I'm quite hungry too, not for ice cream though it's freezing. B: What you have a preference to is behaviour and what you're doing is saying that we ought to do this but then there's nothing more to backup that ought in your world-view other than a deterministic chemical position of your preference to behaviour, just how you might have a deterministic chemical predisposition to a certain flavoured ice cream. And so what we're trying to say is all these arguments rely on a basis that can only be true from Christianity. Then I would argue: they are true, therefore Christianity is true. _________________________ www.audacitymovie.com Get your DVDs from Europe here: www.livingwaterseu.com/store/audacity/audacity-dvd-detail - Follow us on Twitter:twitter.com/LivingWatersEU - Like us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/livingwaterseurope - Subscribe on our YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/channel/UCE2zZBaWVeNsq5JdIALLJkQ?sub_confirmation=1 _______________________ ---Strange marriages:--- Woman Marries Eiffel Tower: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/2074301/Woman-with-objects-fetish-marries-Eiffel-Tower.html Woman Marries Dog: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/woman-marries-dog-romantic-wedding-3225948 Man Marries Himself: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/102003 Man Marries His Dying Cat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=64&v=a1Rnw3PQolY Etc…
