During 7th and 8th November 2009, 350mm of rain fell in parts of El Salvador in just 24 hours. In the territories where Plan works, there was severe flooding which affected thousands of families. Thanks to Plan's Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) training, civil youth protection committees played a key role in alerting people to the flood danger, evacuating people to higher ground and making the first damage assessments.
