Sunset is the daily disappearance of the Sun below the western horizon as a result of Earth's rotation.

Sunset is the point at which the Sun is first completely below the horizon marking the start of twilight. It should not be confused with dusk which occurs at the end of twilight.

The time of sunset is defined in astronomy as the moment when the trailing edge of the Sun's disk disappears below the horizon.

Sunset creates unique atmospheric conditions such as the often intense orange and red colours of the Sun and the surrounding sky.

The time of sunset varies throughout the year, and is specified by longitude and latitude, and elevation. 

At sunrise and sunset, when the path through the atmosphere is longer, the blue and green components are removed almost completely, leaving the longer wavelength orange and red hues we see at those times. 

Note : 

1) Sunset colours are typically more brilliant than sunrise colours because the evening air contains more particles than morning air.

2) Locations north of Arctic Circle and south of Antarctic Circle experience no sunset or sunrise on at least one day of the year, when the polar day or the polar night persists continuously for 24 hours.

3) Sunsets on other planets appear different because of the differences in the distance of the planet from the Sun as well as different atmospheric compositions.
