This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. How do you go from school drop-out to finding power in seeing words in three dimensions? James Ross is passionate about showing people how dyslexia can be nurtured by teaching 3D learning. As a child, James struggled with reading and writing and left school at the age of 17 with the spelling level of a seven year old. Despite going on to become a Civil Engineer he never lost that feeling of being stupid. In 2002 at the age of 33, James was introduced to an idea that was totally transformational and over the past 12 years he has studied and researched the field of Dyslexia and Visual thinking. In 2013 with the support of his wife, James founded “Know Dyslexia Charitable Trust” which is to support dyslexics throughout New Zealand by increasing the awareness, recognition and acceptance of visual thinking as a way of learning. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
