Happy Mother's Day everyone! This is something I stirred up yesterday. I'd been wanting to write a song like this for a while but it all just came at once, so I immediately sat down in my room and did a quick recording for you guys (with a few different takes that I couldn't make very discreet).
Something I really wanted to do with this song was write to the greatest denominator, so that anyone and everyone can find a way to connect to this song today, no matter whether they get to spend it with their mother this year or not. Two people that I care about very much, my best friend and my mother, have recently lost their moms, so this song is both inspired by and dedicated to them. As always, it has a lot of personal aspects. I hope you enjoy it!
I love you all and I wish you a fantastic Mother's Day. (:

The smile on your face
The wind in your hair
The beauty you chased
That was already there

I tried on your heels
And you taught me what love was
We'd lay in the field
And name the stars above us

(chorus)
My my, you're the prettiest lady
Won't you come lay me down tonight
And my my, what a beautiful song
Won't you sing me your longest lullaby
Oooh

Now, I don't have your eyes
But you gave me your soul
You learned from the skies
Monday nights, and Christmas lights, the tightest hugs when I'm terrified
They'll never get old

(chrous)

You no longer have what you are to me
And I'm grateful that you get to watch me dream
Down here in the grass, it's a beautiful view
But I'd trade a million stars to never have to name one after you

(chorus)

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
