Neighbor Charged With Stealing Puppy

A family pet was stolen from a Belton back yard, and now the neighbors have been charged in connection with the crime.

Jeff Baar and his family have been posting fliers of his missing dog all over Cass County.

Baar said he's hoping to find his 1-year-old puppy, but so far, they aren't getting any help from their neighbors.

Baar said two dogs used to be in the back yard -- now it's down to one. Angel is still here, but puppy Branson is missing.

"He did jump the fence once or twice," Baar said of Branson.

Baar said that once he put up an electric fence, Branson stayed put. So, when his pup disappeared, he started asking questions.

"I went around and asked the neighbors if they saw him," Baar told KMBC's Chris Nagus.

Baar said his next-door neighbors denied any involvement, until a witness came forward that led Baar to call police.

"After they were arrested, they confessed to taking the dog," Baar said.

The couple next door, Charlie and Betty Poulsen, refused to comment to KMBC.

Police said the couple is facing charges for taking the puppy. According to the police report. The Poulsens said they took the dog because he barked constantly.
