We lost an iconic American hero this month. His service to our country changed it forever by igniting the Civil Rights Movement when he, and three other college freshmen dorm mates, sat at the lunch counter in Woolworth's during a time black men were lynched in the South for lesser crimes: February 1st, 1960 The next day 27 people joined them. The day after that 60, day 3 had 300 people, and by the end if the week there were thousands. Each day the number of lunch counter sit-ins grew across the country (64 cities in less than two months time). In months lunch counters were desegregated and the Civil Rights Movement that fixes our country was in full force.
