(30 Oct 2018) President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he wants to end a constitutional right that automatically grants citizenship to any baby born in the United States. Trump, in an interview with "Axios on HBO," said his goal is halting guaranteed citizenship for babies of noncitizens and unauthorized immigrants. AP White House Reporter Jill Colvin explains that U.S. citizenship through birth comes via the 14th Amendment to the Constitution and that "the president claims that some of his legal advisers have told him it would be possible to undo birthright citizenship through executive action." But, she says, overwhelmingly, scholars say it would require a Constitutional amendment.
