There've been at least 10 AIDS-related deaths in Tobago for the year so far, according to the newly appointed Chairman of the Tobago AIDS Co-Ordinating Committee, Dr. Kale Ferguson. The Tobago AIDS Co-Ordinating Committee was re-launched recently at the Division of Health, Wellness, and Family Development in Scarborough. The 16 member committee is charged with reducing stigma and discrimination, and increasing awareness of HIV/AIDS on the island. When asked about the number of AIDS-related deaths in Tobago, Dr. Ferguson said the number evolves. Dr. Ferguson said sometimes the best solution to HIV/AIDS prevention is the hardest thing to do, which is behavioural change. He described behavioural change towards sexual practices as a nemesis of sorts. Dr. Feguson also estimated that less than 1% of the island's population is living with HIV/AIDS.
