UPDATE: I-40 Eastbound Reopened At Mile Marker 90 In McDowell Co.

Both Eastbound lanes of I-40 have reopened at mile marker 91 near Nebo in McDowell County. Troopers say both lanes were closed Wednesday afternoon as the result of two separate accidents. The first accident happened when a car rear ended another car around 4 p.m. The driver of one of those cars was severely hurt. I-40 was shut down to allow MAMA to transport the driver to the hospital. As that accident was being cleared, a second crash took place involving seven cars and a tractor trailer. The driver of the tractor trailer failed to slow down and slammed into the vehicles, injuring two people.
