In the year 2000 ( cue sci-fi music) the brother of Jack White, from the White Stripes and the Raconteurs, built a geodesic dome house in Detroit Michigan. This house, known as the Igloo House throughout The D, was built from a kit for $90,000 and is now on the market today for $399,000. Come along with me and a groundhog as we explore the property and I’ll spew out facts about the house that are rattling about in my big fat head. This house is right beside Mexicantown in Detroit so if you’re ever in the area, get an empanada at the restaurant next door. Trust ✌🏿✌🏽 A geodesic dome is a hemispherical thin-shell structure (lattice-shell) based on a geodesic polyhedron. The triangular elements of the dome are structurally rigid and distribute the structural stress throughout the structure, making geodesic domes able to withstand very heavy loads for their size.
