Light Pollution

Light pollution has gotten out of control in the USA. One of the worse offenders are big box stores with parking lots the size of amusement parks, which are required per zoning codes.

The fact that parking lots remain lit all night long adds to the obnoxious factor.

Roadie Speedster

Earlier today while cycling in the park I encountered a roadie on the trail.

He had the whole outfit with tights, skinny tires, and a geared bike. I was almost able to keep pace with him on the flats but once we hit a couple hills he was gone.

I suppose that's the main benefit to having a geared bike - being able to upshift on the descents and convert more power to more efficiently build momentum and sustain it.

I did pretty well though considering I had a regular winter jacket and pants on with cyclocross tires, fenders, and no gears since my bike is a single speed bike.

Single speed naturally has its limitations, that is, for any given gear you can only go so fast before you spin out. For instance, my single speed gear generally maxes out at about 20 mph on flat terrain.

For the record, I did have a geared bike and tights etc. lol
