Here's the short version of the publishing advice I gave this week to a group of digital nomads in Lisbon: 1. Make sure you know where the money is coming from/what you want to sell. 2. Connect with the potential audience and find out what they need and want. 3. Find an undiscovered pain point for that audience; something small and specific that isn't already covered by a nonfiction book. 4. Invite user submitted content from influencers in your field, to make the book longer/more interesting and give them an incentive to share when you launch. This is the practical, how to type of book that is simple and value-driven... as opposed to the conceptual, brand-building book that outlines your vision statement and focuses on higher idealistic content (those books will sell better IF you have an established platform, or if you're pitching to a traditional publisher, but will also take you years to write). If you're growing your business or starting with a smaller audience, focus on SEO, long tail keyword + benefit driven subtitles that get found easily, to outrank your competition on Google and bring more leads.
