I used to design electronics and mechanicals for some of the world's smallest remote controlled airplanes. This may not be small (by today's standards), but the motor on this plane is still probably the highest efficiency and highest power-density motor under 10 grams. The plane was custom built by its pilot. I designed and assembled all PCBs, the servos and DC brushless motor controller. Clarence Hurd designed the radio circuit, I built the controller and receiver, and wrote all software running on the plane (about 15 pages of code). This plane weighs about 40 grams. The motor has between 60 and 80 grams of thrust (depending on battery charge), and is reversible. Flight time is between 4 minutes (hovering) and 30 minutes (normal flight). There are 4 fully proportional channels.
