Last Friday (July 22) the Zoo issued a statement to the press stating that Xavira had been euthanized "early this week". According to the statement she had severe arthritis that made it difficult for her to move around. The Zoo finally posted a notice about her death on Facebook yesterday, but still has not sent an email message regarding her death to members. Xavira was one of the Zoo's most loved residents. Throughout all her years at the Zoo she received the best possible care from the keepers and veterinarians. And she required extra care during the past year. The Zoo really should have given the animal care staff much more credit than it did in its brief press release and Facebook statements. (This video was recorded July 4, 2011 - approximately two weeks prior to her death.)
