Most of the last two days have been spent modifying the existing units to fit the layout in the new position in my daughter's kitchen. all of the cabinets required the doors to open the other way to what they did which meant re-positioning all the hinges and in sime cases moving the knob from the upper to lower position or vice versa depending where the original door fit. The 600mm tall appliance unit originally did not have any drawer space which my daughter wanted. The only drawers in our original kitchen were only 500mm wide so i cut one drawer front in half, then cut another 100mm piece from another drawer front and then dowelled, glued and sanded to make the profiles fit together as seamlessly as possible. I turned the original drawers through 90 degree and the made up the gap to alow the drawer ruuners to fit inside the 600mm housing. Quite a challenge but I was pleased with the outcome. I pre-cut all the plinth pieces and cut and mitred the cornice and lighting rails ready for installation. So all is now done ane daughter took away the units today. Andy now has the task of installing them in their kitchen but hopefully all the pre-assembly and pre-cutting will make it as painless as possible. I can now start to remove the tiles, skirting board, existing wallcovering and re-position electrical outlets to suit the new configuration. The new kitchen is schedules to arrive in 3 days so i will be ready to begin the installation then. I can't wait as I am looking forward to the challenge of this fit out.
