Indian actress and winner of Miss World Pageant 2000 Priyanka Chopra and American pop singer and actor Nick Jonas just arrived in the Indian desert city of Jodhpur ahead of their wedding weekend.

Accompanying them was Nick’s brother, Joe Jonas, and his fiancee, actress Sophie Turner.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas announced their engagement back in August.

The pre-wedding festivities began in Mumbai with an intimate Puja (prayer) at Chopra’s mother’s home.

The wedding is expected to take place in the grand Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel according to Bazaar.

The wedding festivities will cover three days culminating in tying the knot on Sunday, Dec. 2.

It will be a traditional Indian wedding ceremony as Nick Jonas understands how important it is to Chopra, according to ET.

So what will these traditional ceremonies entail?

According to ET, generally the Sangeet kicks off the festivities three days before the wedding.

Translated from Sanskrit, it means “sung together,” and is a way for family and friends to bond in the celebration of joy, spirituality, love and happiness. Singing, dancing, food, and music are all included as well.

Then the day before the wedding, there is the bridal Mehendi or Mehndi (henna). The decorative designs are super intricate for the bride, and at some place hidden on her body, the artist will incorporate the groom’s name.

Traditionally, the groom is supposed to find his name before he gets to sleep with the bride.

The official wedding ceremony typically lasts four hours.

Jonas and Chopra will likely stand next to a priest at the mandap (a covered structure with pillars), with an Agni (holy fire) between them.

Tradition suggests the bride and groom will circle the fire while making their vows to each other.

This is then followed by the ritual of the Mangala Sutra, where a piece of silk is used to represent the bonding of the two souls.

Generally, the bridge wears a red sari along with a beautiful headpiece, fine jewels, and lavish accessories.
