Allentown Heros Series 1 11-11-2008 3rd Alarm Structure Fire 1914 S. Delaware St.

I have now begun a project I am doing called Allentown Heroes. This project will be series/promos of Allentown's Public Safety. It will show what they do every day and night in the city of Allentown.

We start our first series off with a 3rd Alarm Structure Fire on November 11th 2008. This incident occurred at 1914 S. Delaware St. Around 9:00 am AFD was dispatched to 1914 S. Delaware St. for a reported house fire. Crews enroute to the scene saw heavy smoke while responding. When BC-3 arrived O/S a 2nd Alarm was transmitted. The fire moved fast and consumed a total of 5 homes on fire and a 3rd alarm was transmitted. Every available fire apparatus in the city responded to the scene.

Fire ripped through a series of row homes in the 1900 blk. of S. Delaware on Tuesday destroying at least 3 homes, one of them belonging to 22 year Allentown Firefighter Rick Ensley.

The fire quickly escalated to 3 alarms which sent every engine and ladder the city had. It took over an hour and a half to control the fire. No one was injured but unfortunately the fire displaced 19 people..

Rick held the position of Secretary for Local 302 for over 15 years and currently serves our members as Safety Committee Chairman.

Those wondering how they may help after Tuesdays devastating fire, a relief fund has been established to help Rick and his family. Donations may be made payable to: * Ricky Ensley Relief Fund * C/O IAFF Local 302 * 723 W. Chew St. Suite 302 * Allentown, PA 18102
