Sankt Andrä, a town of some 11,000 people in the Lavant Valley of Carinthia is probably best known for its basilica - quite a small town for such an important church! You can see in the film where I am parked - this parking is legal but I don't think that the town would want to encourage too many motorhome users to leave their vehicles there at once! Unfortunately there is no local campsite. You can also see in the photograph the tourist information office where in my case the service was really excellent. It is rare to be served by someone as keen to explain what can be seen in the area. I came to the town by following the Austrian route 70 from Völkermarkt to Wolfsberg. The route is an ancient one crossing the Alps, nearby the Romans mined marble and a thousand years later clay was also mined. The route 70 is relatively easy whilst coming from the west and travelling east, if one approaches from the east then the road can be quite winding and steep and could pose a challenge for motorhomers of a more nervous disposition with large vehicles. In that case the motorway is available.
