BMW unveils new 3-series at Paris Motor Show

(3 Oct 2018) Since the launch 40 years ago the BMW 3 series has been one of the most successful models of the Munich-based carmaker. BMW is hoping to take that success to the future with the launch of the new version of the 3-series. "For me of course, the 3-series is very very important. It is the core of our brand," says Klaus Froehlich, member of BMW board of management. "And it has to stand for sportiness, precision, for fun to drive. So, that was the first task for my team. Make it as sporty, as precise, segment leader. And I think we have achieved that." On the front of the car, the grille is larger and the LED lights have been redesigned. On the rear, the car now has a twin exhaust system. "It is a new BMW form language which is a combination of very fine, precise lines, engineering and very few big sculptures. And I think it is clean, it is modern, but nevertheless, it looks very sporty I think," says Froehlich. Inside the car, BMW has updated the entertainment system and added connectivity options. "There probably isn't any more important car for BMW than the 3-series. It really is the center of their brand. It is the car that is the most recognisable, the car that sells in huge volumes," says Jim Holder, editorial director Autocar. "They have an incredible opposition from their rivals such as Audi and Mercedes but also increasingly from the likes of, Alfa, Lexus Jaguar. So it is an incredibly important market for them to show their pre-eminence in and to show that they still make some of the best cars on the market." This year marks 120 years since the first Paris Motor Show show. It's held every second year in the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre in the French capital. The show opens to the public October 4, 2018, and runs until October 14. It's expected to attract some one million visitors.
