(19 Oct 2018) A Bulgarian court has ruled the permanent detention of Severin Krassimirov who has been charged for the rape and slaying of a Bulgarian television journalist. The district court in the northern city of Ruse decided on Friday that Krassimirov must remain in custody until his trial. The body of Viktoria Marinova, 30, was found near a jogging alley at the banks of the Danube River in Ruse on October 6. Krassimirov recalled the events saying that he had been under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he got into an argument with a woman he didn't know. He said he hit her in the face and threw her into bushes but does not remember what happened after that. The 21-year-old fled immediately to Germany, where his mother lives, but was apprehended on Oct. 9 near Hamburg on a European warrant. He was returned to Bulgaria on Wednesday. So far, they have excluded suggestions that the crime could be linked to Marinova’s work.
