This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. With an issue as severe as sex slavery, how can one person really make a difference? On a school trip to cambodia Malika Zekhni learned firsthand the power that we have to make a significant change in the lives of others.

Malika was born in 1996 -- a year when Tajikistan was living through the final stages of severe civil war, which was caused by the collapse of the USSR. Her mom took her brother and her, and fled to Yemen, where they lived for a year. It wasn't long until another civil war made them flee to Sweden. Having lived there for over 3 years, they moved back to Tajikistan. After she moved to Moscow Russia, to live with her father, Malikabonui wanted to adapt into a society that did not want to accept her, because she was ethnically Tajik. Studying in a local Russian school gave her a chance to prove to some Russians that nationality and ethnicity does not define level of knowledge or personality. Having lived in such an environment for over 4 years, Malikabonui discovered a new path of her life -- United World College (UWC). Malika saw UWC as a place where she'd be able to grow morally and academically. She chose Hong Kong, because she felt that it was a place where different cultures come together, where she'd be able to explore a new environment, and at the same time feel safe.
At Li Po Chun she realized her immense interest towards history.
