"This tunnel is called Al Mudlim tunnel, and this tunnel has been carved by the Nabateans in the 3rd century BC. They carved this tunnel to divert the flash floods away from the Siq, the main entrance to the city. Because all rain water which falls in Wadi Musa or mountains surrounding Wadi Musa runs through the valleys and gathering in this area."

"The first time we used this system was on the 9th of November this year. It initiated the warnings to the local community and the tourism (tourists). The tourism (tourists) have another siren in the visitors centre and the local community, we have a siren on the roof of Petra Authority. And this warning gives the people, the sound tells them that there is a flash flood approaching or facing the area, and to take action to protect themselves."
