They carved this tunnel to divert the flash floods away from the Siq, the main entrance to the city. It initiated the warnings to the local community and the tourism (tourists). The tourism (tourists) have another siren in the visitors centre and the local community, we have a siren on the roof of Petra Authority. And this warning gives the people, the sound tells them that there is a flash flood approaching or facing the area, and to take action to protect themselves." 20.
