Central Americans migrants enter US illegally

(17 Dec 2018) Some Central American migrants have resorted to crossing the US-Mexico border illegally, as thousands of them stayed back in the border town of Tijuana, living in crowded tents. Francis Hernandez said goodbye to his Honduran friends, who decided on Sunday to take their chances with the US border patrol. Hernandez, who has already been deported once, decided to stay in Tijuana to wait for a better opportunity. On Friday, hundreds of migrants who were camped outside at a sports complex in Tijuana after authorities shut it down, were relocated to a new shelter. The sports complex, close to the US border, once held about 6,000 Central Americans who hope to get into the US. The 300 or so migrants who remained outside of the complex, have been moved to an indoor warehouse. Facing a likely months-long wait in Tijuana before even getting the chance to request asylum in the United States, many migrants are looking for work. Others who have already decided to stay in Mexico have applied for, and in some cases received, permits to work in Mexico.
