Animal control officers and police investigators are working together after more than 10 dogs were found dead in a cemetery in the last six months. The dogs were shot, poisoned or dismembered and then dumped one at a time or in groups. "There were a few dogs decapitated, some lost their limbs," Sgt. Ronda Montgomery told KMBC's Peggy Breit. Authorities met Tuesday afternoon to discuss the case. Since news of the findings spread, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department has received more than 30 calls and e-mails from citizens about their missing pets. Investigators said they have spoken to a person of interest in the case, but that no suspects have been named. "We're very concerned with this because it is a serious crime. We know that this person is obviously disturbed -- and we want to do whatever we can to find the person responsible," Montgomery said. Anyone with information in the case can call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hot line at 816-474-TIPS or the Jackson County Sheriff's Department at 816-524-4302.
