"My name is Lisa Hummel and I am a gerontology student at Portland Community College. The things that I've gained while doing Service-Learning have been experiences that I just can't, you can't learn in a classroom setting or even in a textbook and believe me we've read a lot about seniors. Service-Learning has been the key direction for me. It's opened these doors of opportunities, of job offers, of really affirming what I want and need to do for my life and you know it's, I'm giving back and I'm learning that when I give back I'm also getting something in return and Service-Learning is a lot about that too because you are giving to the community and you're learning the whole process of whatever degree your going for at the same time your helping other people.
