If you'd like to know more about Instar, please peruse the video description for "We're Getting Older" and 'The Ex Nihilo Cycle' EP, both available on my channel. Although technically a third session, I decided to not include the ordinal here since it is a single. Coincidentally, I just tracked the first tune for the first LP/fourth release a few nights ago, so if you dig this stuff there is plenty more down the pike!

Back in October of last year, Greg hit me up regarding tracking this tune. It features Sarah Blake (https://sarahblakeauthor.com/), who was also featured on "We're Getting Older", and of course Eden Kupermintz. Side note, this was mixed by Anthony DiGiacomo of Deep Resonance Studio; he also worked on the previous Instar EP.

Greg and I approached this song a little differently than others. He requested that--in addition to drum parts--I write complementary rhythms in a separate MIDI track, which he would later apply to various percussion VSTs (cowbell, woodblock, kalimba, marimba, xylophone). I included my chart for this below.

Notes:
2:05 - spoken word complementation
2:19 - 2:43 - main groove is reprised here. In my second drum mix for this, I stumbled onto a cool effect/filter combination; it breaks up the monotony (it changes at 2:41 for the fast snare roll)
2:46 - spoken word complementation
2:49 - some inadvertent spoken word complementations (way to go, Eden!)
2:50 - 3:27 - the splash and open hat hits here complement the chords
3:57 - 4:35 - the kick/snare groove acts as an anchor and is repeated in both sections; the dual splash orchestration is a quasi-5-16 polymeter
